Meet Bryce Garcia – STRing Austin by Myrtle Beach

Good morning,

Before we hear from this week’s investor – I wanted to share some good news. This newsletter has our first ever sponsor, curtesy of DealMachine!

It was not an easy decision to add a sponsor section to this newsletter. Partially because I’ve seen how monetization slowly becomes the sole focus for accounts. And at that point it’s no longer about serving people – but about making money.

Since I want to run Resilient REI full time – I will need ad revenue. Which will enable me to build better content, hire a team, and help you do better deals!

So I want to make three promises to you:

  1. Ads will be clearly labeled as such
  2. The company must make you money (or provide significant value)
  3. I will value you, your opinion, and your privacy over any advertiser

Now that we’ve had our vegetables – let’s hear from this week’s investor! Pleased to introduce you to Bryce Garcia!

How many doors do you have?

As of today we have two doors

What got you into real estate investing?

Covid shutdowns. My sales pipeline dried up when the lockdown started. I realized that I was relying on 1 source of income. If I lost my job, I’d be in trouble.

What market(s) do you operate in?

Austin and Myrtle Beach

How would you describe your portfolio?

Short-term rentals

What are you currently buying?

Short-term rentals

Tell us about your biggest mistake in real estate?

Not starting sooner

Tell us about your biggest win in real estate?

My 1st condo. It got me on base, in the real estate game. I learned a lot, became a Superhost, and it helped me with the next purchase.

Outside of real estate what else do you invest in?

Index funds, personal development, and health

Books people should read before investing

Almanack of Naval Ravikant, I Will Teach You To Be Rich, and Money, Master the Game

What advice would you give to a new investor?

Connect with other real estate investors. It’s a people business. Someone else has done what you are trying to do. Save time by learning from them. And we all need support. Other real estate investors can support you in ways your friends outside of REI can’t.

Enough Business

What’s the worst thing to say to anyone between 5 and 17… “Excited to start school tomorrow?”

If you’re like me, much of school felt like a waste of time. Primarily because the one subject I was most interested in was never taught – how to make money. Seriously we were taught how to solve for X but not the difference between a 401K and a ROTH IRA?

Yet school did teach us all one thing – do this and that will happen. Go to class, take notes, study, and you will get good grades. This is a lesson we shouldn’t forget. Instead of blazing your own path – find someone who can tell you what to do. Pay for a mentor, take a class, or at the bare minimum network. From my experience successful people love mentoring people. It makes them feel good and they might end up wanting to do business with you.

As an adult we get to pick our teachers. Let’s choose wisely
