Meet Lawrence Briggs – Playing Monopoly in the Projects to Real Life Landlord

Good morning,

What I love about real estate is that anyone can find success in it. Regardless of your background – so long as you work hard you can find success.

Because of this – real estate is filled with inspirational stories. People from humble beginnings building wealth for them, their family, and community. Today we have one such investor.

It is my pleasure to introduce you to Lawrence Briggs.

How many doors do you have?

Right now I have 3 doors

What got you into real estate investing?

As a child growing up in the New Orleans Housing Projects, I was surrounded by poverty. My interest in real estate investing started as a kid. I always enjoyed the game Monopoly.

What market(s) do you operate in?

I operate in the Central Texas market about 45 minutes from Austin, Texas

How would you describe your portfolio?

My portfolio consist of buy and hold properties.

What are you currently buying?

I buy single family homes.

Tell us about your biggest mistake in real estate?

My biggest mistake was waiting to start. While living in Austin, Texas, it would have been beneficial for me to purchase a house hack instead of renting.

Tell us about your biggest win in real estate?

My biggest real estate win was purchasing my primary home about 4 years ago. Since then, the property has doubled in value. This allows for me to have an equity piggybank to fund more real estate deals.

Outside of real estate what else do you invest in?

I invest in myself, which to me is the most important invest of all. I do this by keeping a healthy my mind, body, and spirit. Also, my goal is to educate as many possible about financial literacy. I do this by documenting my journey to financial freedom via my YouTube Channel

Books people should read before investing

Rich Dad, Poor Dad

Mud2Millions

House Hackonomics

Crushing It in Apartments and Commercial Real Estate

The Book on Rental Property Investing

Enough Business

A few weeks back – we learned that Princess contracted a pretty bad rash. Effectively her whole body was itchy and infectious. The rash was not fully appreciated until the vet shaved parts of her back… (it was bad)

The vet explained that this rash was an opportunistic infection. The trauma she suffered from her fall likely compromised her immune system. Leading to the growth of this rash.

The good news is that she is on the up and up. Nearly done with her treatment. And we no longer need to wear cloves or wash our hands after touching her.

I think this rash has a lot to teach us. When we’re going through trauma – we are vulnerable. Vulnerable to a ‘cheap’ or ‘quick’ way to fix our situation.

While I’m not qualified to discuss how to treat trauma. I do feel confident in saying that in times of stress – dangers lurk. Take your medicine and do the work. So that you can get back to your cooling station.
